My Experience

I started working as a counsellor in my training placement at a Plymouth-based Community Interest Company.  I continue to work there as a qualified volunteer.  I work on different funded projects alongside fee paying clients, providing counselling and psychotherapy for many people who suffer from a wide range of issues including domestic abuse; anxiety and depression; struggles in the workplace or with their role as a carer.

Grief
Grief

The stages of grief can be bewildering, distressing and often unexpected – denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Workplace
Workplace

Workload, time pressure, relationships, bullying, poor management, isolation can all impact our wellbeing in our work role.

Anxiety
Anxiety

By uncovering the underlying cause of your anxiety, and look at your situation through a different, less frightening, lens, we can work to help you develop better ways to cope and overcome your anxiety.

Domestic Abuse
Domestic Abuse

The trauma of domestic abuse can affect people over a very long period of time.  Counselling can give you the time and space to discuss your feelings, problems and any issues you are facing in a safe and confidential space.

About me

I am a qualified integrative therapist.  I believe there isn’t just one therapeutic approach that can help us in all situations.

You and your situation are unique. I use approaches that I feel will best help us explore what concerns you.

I offer you the space to be listened to with warmthcompassion and empathy

I am easy to talk to, friendly and will listen with compassion to what you bring to our session. Sometimes I may gently challenge you.  I will always support and encourage you.  I know that coming to counselling takes courage and I respect that.

I bring a wealth of experience to my work.  My life has had its fair share of highs and very lows.  What I’ve learned is that nothing is insurmountable and that everyone can achieve change for the better in their lives.

What is Psychotherapy?

“Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be?” Charles Bukowski.

In a nutshell, psychotherapy helps us to look at what is unresolved within us.

Therapy helps us grow in self-awareness and understanding.  We can decide whether old patterns of behaving are still useful to us in the present day.

It can help us to start knowing ourselves and becoming more authentically ourselves.

This can help bring a feeling of peace.

Session and Fees

When you first contact me, we will arrange a free of charge 15-minute introduction by phone or Zoom.  This is for us to learn a little about each other and if we would like to work together.  Our relationship is the basis of good therapy and we need to feel comfortable together.

We can MEET IN PERSON at my therapy room in Tavistock, Devon, or ONLINE via Zoom or Teams.

In our first session we can discuss our contract and any further questions you have.  At this stage I will ask you some questions so I can learn more about you and your situation.

Our work together may be for a few weeks, or longer, depending on what you need.  We will have regular reviews to ensure you are receiving the support you need.

I work Monday to Friday, and offer daytime and evening appointments.

I will try and accommodate irregular work patterns.

Sessions are 50 minutes and cost £50.
